The two masted wooden scow-schooner G. Ellen was built at Detroit, Michigan by Hicks in the year 1854. In 1874 the vessel was valued at $3,000 and rated at B2.

September 15,1901: Loaded with a cargo of wood bound for Racine, Wisconsin from Pine Lake, Michigan, approximately 30 miles off Milwaukee in Lake Michigan, the scow-schooner G. Ellen foundered after two days in a storm. The crew members were rescued by the passing steamer Nyack after they had tied themselves to the cabin roof to avoid being washed away. The vessel waterlogged and went to pieces.

Brendon Baillod reports that the schooner eventually drifted ashore near Grand Haven, Michigan where the vessel was abandoned.
