Adell went ashore in the gale of Nov. 6-19, 1869, in Milwaukee Bay, enroute from Two Rivers to Milwaukee. The vessel was valued at $500.00 (Marine Casualties 1869).
"Beached at South Pier, 1 mile below Bay View Pier." (near Milwaukee).
Wisconsin Historical Society Maritime Preservation and Archaeology files contain the following report: "A schooner
Adell was reported sunk at Sheboygan harbor at this same time, but 'she can be raised without difficulty.' This is believed to be the
Adell of Sheboygan, 19.03 total tons, 48.0 x 12.0 x 4.7 feet, two masts, wood hull, built Milwaukee, 1860. Her last document was issued at Milwaukee 4/26/1869. It is not known if she was salvaged from Sheboygan harbor."
The
Active may have been recovered since a vessel of the same name sank on 11/8/1870 in the Sheboygan Harbor, reportedly a total loss.
