Cape Horn had a long career on Lake Michigan prior to being abandoned in Milwaukee.
October 1869. Schooner
Cape Horn, grain laden, sprung a leak on Lake Michigan.

Package Freighter #75388 struck and sunk the empty
Cape Horn.

Final Voyage
September 16,1910. The old schooner
Cape Horn had been purchased by the city of Bay View in the hopes that the vessel would serve as a deterrent to erosion. The city loaded the vessel with rocks, towed it within 100 feet off of Iron Street with a fire tug, and sank it off the island. A number of residents, however, had different ideas as to the schooner's greatest utility. A number of them attacked the vessel with axes, hoping to acquire a winter's supply of firewood from the old craft. Shortly after the attack, a gale swept in and completely broke up the vessel.
The remains have never been found and possibly have been removed.
