"The twin screw steamer Ossian Cook was built at Oshkosh in 1880 by the Cook & Brown Lime Company. She was 115 feet long and 24 foot beam, commanded by Captain Frank Schlissing, and was used by the Cook & Brown Company in their lime and stone business between Oshkosh and the east shore until 1895." She carried loads of wood, stone, sand, and brick up and down the Wolf and Fox Rivers.
"The History of Winnebago County reports the Ossian Cook abandoned in 1895 as worthless. However, the Oshkosh Weekly Northwestern, dated 11/10/1895 reports her in the present tense, e.g. "competes for the Wolf River traffic" although it also reports her as having been laid up in October."
