The two masted wooden brig
Flora was built in the year 1849 at Irving, New York.
In 1850 the
Flora was involved in a collision with the steamer
Baltic on Lake Erie near Buffalo, Ohio. The vessel sustained severe damage.
Final Voyage
"Shipwreck - On Friday morning last (September 9, 1853), in a thick fog, the brig
Flora, of Cleveland, Robert Moor master, bound for this port with 435 tons of coal, struck a rock about 13 miles north of Kewaunee, instantly filled and sank in ten feet of water. The captain and crew reached the shore in safety in the brig's boats. Captain Moor arrived here Wednesday evening and informs us that every effort was made to save the vessel but all in vain. He hopes to obtain assistance here to enable to recover the cargo and vessel if possible. The
Flora is owned by Crawford and Price of Cleveland and is insured for $1,100 in the Buffalo Mutual Insurance Company." Milwaukee Sentinel 9/10/1853

Rossetter Captain Hopkins, arrived at this port on Saturday from Keewaunee with the rigging, anchors, etc. saved from the wreck of the brig
