Final Voyage

"On Friday last (11/30/1855) the schooner Welland of Chicago, in attempting to make the harbor here (Sheboygan) missed it, and went ashore. At the time the wind was blowing S. by S.W., and a heavy sea was rolling in. She had on board 400 barrels of salt ...and a quantity of merchadise. Being somewhat old, she soon sprang a leak, and the salt which was in her hold, was all spoiled, except some 50 barrels. The vessel was pumped out and got off on Wednesday last, and run into the Sheboygan river, where she now lies sunk."
