The wooden two masted scow-schooner George was built in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in 1891. There are few references in the newspapers, one mentions that the George was taking on a load of wheat in Green bay and another states she was hauling sawdust for the ice companies.

Last Document Of Enrollment Surrendered: Milwaukee: 8/22/1898: "Wrecked".
"Found without crew. Scow George is picked up and towed into Fish Creek. Menominee, Mich., July 23 (1898). The schooner-rigged scow George of Menekaunee, with both masts broken off, was picked up by the fishing tug Pilgrim and towed into Fish Creek. No trace has been found of the captain and crew. They are supposed to have been lost in the great storm of Tuesday last. Nothing has been heard as yet from Capt. George Lemieux and his crew of three men. The captain resides in De Pere, Michigan." Milwaukee Sentinel 7/24/1898.

"Reports from Fish Creek are to the effect that during the recent storm the scow schooner George was completely dismantled near Chambers Island. When the George was found, she was riding at anchor a short ways from the beach of the island. An investigation showed the cabin to be great disorder clothing etc being strewn about the floor. It was learned that some of the crew had met with an accident and were drowned. The George was towed from her anchorage into Fish Creek and at last reports was still there." Door County Advocate 7/30/1898.

"The scow George was also dismantled that day (during the squall of July 19th,1897) near Chambers Island while lying at anchor. Before the storm the crew of three (plus the captain?) deserted, to the Mary Dunn." Door County Advocate, 31 December, 1898.
Earlier in the above article it was stated that the scow Mary Dunn was dismasted off Chambers Island and taken in tow by the schooner Georgy. Did the crew of the George end up on the Georgy?
