"The steamer Volunteer is being wrecked at Milwaukee, and as soon as the engine and boilers are removed the hulk of the once famous old vessel will be towed out in the lake and sunk." "Dismantled in Kinnickinnic River, Milwaukee, Wis. and towed into Lake Michigan & burned near South Shore Beach in 1914."

The Volunteer lies in 15 feet of water about 100 yards off the breakwall. her complete hull is present.
