Final Voyage

September 16,1910. The old schooner Cape Horn had been purchased by the city of Bay View in the hopes that the vessel would serve as a deterrent to erosion. The city loaded the vessel with rocks, towed it within 100 feet off of Iron Street with a fire tug, and sank it off the island. A number of residents, however, had different ideas as to the schooner's greatest utility. A number of them attacked the vessel with axes, hoping to acquire a winter's supply of firewood from the old craft. Shortly after the attack, a gale swept in and completely broke up the vessel.
The remains have never been found and possibly have been removed.
