Service History
The
Bessie Boalt was wrecked October of 1872 in St. Joseph, Michigan. She was recovered and repaired in 1873.
On November 6, 1877 she was wrecked in a gale and recovered at Frankfort, Michigan.
Last Enrollment Surrendered: 10/01/1884: Milwaukee: "Vessel Total Loss".
Final Voyage
On September 21, 1884 the schooner
Bessie Boalt, bound from Leland, Michigan to Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a cargo of cord wood, sprung a leak while crossing Lake Michigan and became water logged off Two RIvers, Wisconsin, where she was abandoned by her crew. The vessel eventually capsized and defied all efforts to right her. On the 25th of September, the Milwaukee tug
Welcome, after attempting to right her, towed the schooner to shallow water and grounded her where she went to pieces (on the 4th of October) a half-mile northeast of the US Lifesaving Station. During the next two days the cargo was recovered and the
Bessie Boalt was striped of everything valuable.
