Service History

The wooden two masted schooner Laura Johnson was built at South Haven, Michigan by L.D. LaFountain in 1882. The official registry number was 140527. The vessel was used as a gravel scow.

Last Document Of Enrollment Surrendered: Chicago: 2/28/1891: "Wrecked".
Final Voyage

"Racine, July 17.- During a northeast gale this afternoon, the gravel scow , Laura Johnson, of Chicago, went ashore off North Point and filled with water. She will probably prove a total wreck. Her value is about $2,000, no insurance." Milwaukee Sentinel 7/18/1890.

"Abandoned the Jonson. Racine, July 19, 1890-The scow Laura Johnson, which went ashore at North point during a northeast gale, has been stripped of her rigging and abandoned." Milwaukee Sentinel 7/20/1890
