Service History

The two masted schooner Dolphin was built at Port Dover, Ontario in 1854. At the time of her loss there where at least two other vessels with the name Dolphin plying Lake Michigan's waters. The Dolphin spent much of her time on lower Lake Michigan near Racine and Chicago hauling mainly lumber.

November, 1870: The Dolphin capsized near Milwaukee Harbor with a load of brick. She was later recovered and put back in service.

Last Document Of Enrollment Surrendered:Chicago: 9/30/1876: "Total Loss".
Final Voyage

September 7, 1876: The schooner Dolphin went ashore during a gale. Her spars were cut down, along with the rigging, and towed into the harbor. She was reported as a total loss. Milwaukee Sentinel, 9/12/1876.
