Final Voyage

"Disasters By The Late Gale.- The blow of Wednesday was very heavy at Racine. We learn from the Daily Advocate that the schooner Temperance, Calcutta and Gertrude, all went ashore during the gale. The Temperance went to pieces. She had been employed, along with the tug McQueen of Chicago, in getting the cargo out of the schooner Hibbard, which went ashore last fall 5 miles north of Racine, and had got about 60,000 feet of lumber off the Hubbard, when the gale set in and compelled the tug, with the schooner and a scow in tow, to run for Racine harbor. The tug got in, but the scow sunk and the schooner went to pieces."
