The Potawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island

Attraction
Description
The original Potawatomi Light, built in 1836, was the first lighthouse in Wisconsin and the first on Lake Michigan. The lighthouse seen today was built in 1858 and has been beautifully restored. The lighthouse is in Rock Island State Park at the very tip of the Door County Peninsula. Rock Island is accessible only by boat. The Washington Island Ferry runs year round, while a second ferry to Rock island is in service from Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day (same number for details). Rock Island offers visitors a 'walking only' tour through its many trails. Picnic areas, a half-mile sandy shoreline, the lighthouse, and several historic buildings are all part of the Rock Island experience. Visitors are also welcome to camp in one of the 40 family campsites or two group camps. Please call the park or visit their web site for more information.
