Description
Newly constructed in 2001, the Port Wing Heritage Hall is a local history resource center, as well as the home of the Port Wing library. The museum features exhibits on the area's history, mainly focusing on the local lumbering and commercial fishing industries. Photographic displays of local fishing tugs from the early 20th century as well as fishing tools and artifacts all demonstrate the importance of Lake Superior's waters to the past survival of the area. For a further glimpse into the area's maritime history, head north along Hwy 13 to Quarry Point and the Port Wing Marina, where the early-mid 20th century Port Wing Breakwater Light now resides in a small park near the waters it once shined its light on. For more information on the Heritage Hall's exhibits contact the museum.
