Service History

The wodden two masted scow schooner Marion Dixon was built by R. Hayes in Fairport, Ohio in 1864. The official registry number was 16629. In 1874 the Board of Lake Underwriters valued her at $1,500 and rated her C1. In 1869 the Marion Dixon sprung a leak on Lake Michigan. In 1876 the Marion Dixon was considered unseaworthy and in 1879 she was not insurable.
Final Voyage

On June 10, 1880 the scow schooner Marion Dixon, loaded with tan bark, capsized approximately ten miles from shore midway between Racine and Kenosha. The vessel was abandoned a few miles south of Kenosha after she had come ashore.
