Service History

The wooden steam tug Rambler was built in 1873 by the Union Dry Dock Company at Buffalo, New York. Her official registry number was 110155 and she was valued at $7,000 at the time of her loss.
Final Voyage

The steam tug Rambler burned to her waterline and sunk near Red Cliff just outside of Bayfield on August 24th 1891. The fire was considered arson in an attempt to gain the $5,000 in insurance. The vessel had been put up as collateral against some loans. The insurer never paid out.
Today

The vessel lies inshore of the wreck of the Coffinberry in 1' of water. The wreck is broken and eroded, includes lower bow, keel, keelson, and floors: extant portion (stern is missing) is 44' long. Historical ID of wreck is uncertain.
