The schooner Norma was a "hooker" that belonged to Captain W.P. Kirtland of Egg harbor who carried on coastal trade between Door County and the west shore of Green Bay. Her official registry number was 18605. The Norma was built by J.S. Monroe in 1867 at Depere, Wisconsin. During the last week of August 1898 the schooner Pride and Norma were capsized on Egg Harbor by a storm. Each vessel lost a member of the crew. Louis Tilman was the person drowned from the Norma. Captain W. P. Kirkland was not on board or he too many have lost his life.The Norma was repaired and put back into service.

The schooner Norma was blown ashore on September 11th,1900 in Egg Harbor. She became a total loss so her owner, Captain Kirtland, purchased the schooner William Finch to replace her. In November, Captain Kirtland was engaged in salvaging the cargo and rigging of the Norma and had transferred these items to the schooner William Finch when a northwester set in. The Finch began to leak but there was no danger until the pump broke and Captain Kirkland had to let go of the anchor allowing the schooner to go onto the beach rather than founder. She went ashore and pounded to pieces close to the wreck of the Norma. Villagers rescued the captain and his assistant. The captain's loss amounted to $400 including both the vessel and the cargo.
