Service History

Little information can be found about the fish tug Francis R. Anderson. The Francis R. Anderson was built in Chicago by Smith in 1885, the registry number was 120621, and she was a wooden fish tug. In 1892 the vessel was owned by Booth & Company and was taken from Manistique, Michigan to Ashland, Wisconsin. By 1895 the hull length had changed from 75.6 feet to 95 feet long and was owned by the Booth Packing Company.

The Memorial Record Of The Northern Peninsula of Michigan states that in about 1889 a Captain Lindquist moved to Escanaba, Michigan and was employed by the A. Booth & Sons managing their boat Frances R. Anderson and buying fish. Note that Frances is spelled with an e rather than an i. Is this the same vessel mentioned above that was moved from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior in 1892?
Final Voyage

"The tug was simply left to rot earlier in the century at a Bayfield dock. She sat at the foot of Washington Avenue where today there is a public beach. The old fishing boat is nowhere in sight, however, having been completely covered by sand a short distance from shore." The "Unholy" Apostles Tales of Chequamegon Shipwrecks by James M. Keller.
