The yacht Aldena was traveling upstream on the Mississippi River from Chicago to St. Paul and at 5:30 a.m. was anchored at the Guttenburg locks. The gasoline engine backfired causing the yacht to catch on fire. The two crew members got off the boat safely. The Aldena was destroyed.
