Service History

The wooden two masted schooner Maria was only 33.7 feet long. She was built in Milwaukee by J.R. Smith in 1878. Her official registry number was 91096.
Final Voyage

November 1895. The two masted schooner Maria had taken on a cargo of wooden railroad ties at Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Soon after departing the harbor, a storm struck, she was heavily leaking and was in danger of sinking. The captain put up a distress signal and the six man crew was rescued by local fishermen. The following morning, the Maria was found to be aground near Two Rivers and breaking up.
