The S.D. Van Gorder was built as a steam ferry in 1877 by S.D. Van Gorder who had the ferry franchise at Winona.
Final Voyage

The S.D. Van Gorder burned on June 8, 1891 while enroute from Winona, Minnesota to the Wisconsin shore on the opposite side of the Mississippi River. She was a total loss.
