Service History

The schooner Persia was built in 1855-56 at Chicago by D. Barrett.
Final Voyage

"The schooner Persia became waterlogged on Lake Michigan, dragged her anchors, and stranded 8 miles north of the USLSS at Racine. The captain, Sam Martin, and his two crew members escaped in the ship's boat. The vessel was valued at $!,000 and was uninsured. The cargo, consigned to Kelly, Weeks & Co., was also valued at $1,000 and was not insured. The USLSS report for June 6th states that the vessel was dismantled, the spars, sails, and rigging being brought into Racine harbor for the master."
